Year Month Message
2009

12 April

Christ is risen, Hallelujah!

Gracious God, our Father, on this Easter morning we come to you with hearts full of adoration, gratitude and wondering love!

In imagination we have journeyed with our Master to the bitter cross and tried to understand the meaning of His death;
In imagination we have been in the garden and seen the rapture on Mary’s face;
In imagination we have waited in the upper room.

Father God, thank you that death could not hold our Lord and for us life is not a dead end, but starts with an empty tomb!

We praise you our living Lord that you invite us to come to you, but you also command us to go into the world in your name.

We bring to you, Eternal God, our prayers and concerns for people of Italy who know grief and despair due to the recent earthquake, asking that you will comfort the grief stricken, heal the injured and give wisdom to all those who have responsibilities to house the homeless, bury the dead and bring new life to areas of devastation.

There are so many countries where the inhabitants live in fear of the conflicts raging, indeed where many Christians are persecuted. Each of us knows particular concerns for one of more of these, so in silence we bring these before you Father of Life, praying for peace and justice…

We thank you for organisations like Baptist World Aid, Operation Agri, Christian Aid and Tearfund who go to people in need providing for nationals to help themselves and improve health and education.

We pray for Dave, Sally and Michelle, as they offer support to our friends in Uganda, that you will encourage them and keep them safe. We also ask that you will bless Lia as she seeks to enhance the lives of little children through the PEPE scheme.

God most ever blessed and holy, you command that we should be holy as you are holy, please help us to lead lives which reflect the glory of our Lord Jesus.

We often think of missionaries working in other countries, but Lord you also command us to go into our own locality. So we pray for the many teachers and classroom assistants who are part of our fellowship. We ask that you bless them as they seek to be salt for you in difficult and stressful circumstances, as they try not only to educate children, but to open their minds to their potential and the fact that they are unique, because each one is special to you. May the pupils see that these people are different, because they belong to you.

Father of Life, you want us to be light for you. Particularly we pray for our members who are in caring professions; that they will bring your light into their daily work. As they give of themselves, please fill them with your power that every person with whom they come into contact will feel empowered, that the sick and those troubled by life will feel as if they have been touched by you, through your servants.

Father, we ask for your healing on those who are battling cancer, the one recovering from a painful operation and the one facing a serious operation.

We thank you for all who have obeyed your command to be of those who serve, those who serve in leadership roles, those who give of their talents to run activities and visits for the elderly, those who help those living with disabilities, those who serve the babies and children, and those who serve the church.

Almighty God, please help us to honour you with our lives as we place you first in our lives, before the money we spend on ourselves, before our possessions, before our leisure time, even before our loved ones; that your name may be glorified as we rejoice that our Lord Jesus conquered death, so that we have life in all its fullness, as we proclaim Christ is risen, Hallelujah.
Amen.

2009 15 Feb.
Dear Lord,

We read in the Bible that;
You have called us by name and that we are Yours.
Water will not drown us,
Fire will not burn us,
You will never give us up,
We are precious to You,
You have carved us on the palm of Your hand.
The hands of Jesus bear the scars of His death on the cross for each one of us.
Let the wonder of Your love fill our souls this day and every day.

Lord Jesus, You told us:
‘I have loved you as the Father loved me. Love one another as I have loved you’.
And again You said:
‘Whatever you did for the least of these my brothers you did it to me’.

We pray that You forgive us
If someone was hungry and we gave them no food,
If someone was thirsty and we gave them no drink,
If we met a stranger and we did not welcome them,
If someone was naked and we did not clothe them,
If someone was sick or in prison and we did not visit them.

Help us this day to be Your agent of love to some other person.
Lord Jesus, You had the heart of a servant.
Give us a heart like Yours.

As a church, we pray that You will bind us together with love.
May we love each other as You love each one of us.
Fill us with Your love that does not keep records of wrong,
May we forgive each other’s faults as You forgive our sins.
Bring joy to our hearts when we think of one another.
Bring Your perfect peace and unity into each family here.
Help us to build a united church family.
And as a church, help us to reach out
to the broken-hearted, and the lonely,
to those who don’t have family or loved ones to care for them,
to those whom you place on our paths.
Help us to see people through Your eyes;
to see not only their problems but also their possibilities,
to see them as all that they can be in You.

We thank you for each marriage represented in this church.
We pray that husbands and wives will love each other as You love the church
And that You will be at the centre of each marriage,
creating a three-fold cord that cannot be broken.
You instituted marriage to be the cornerstone of society,
So we pray that it be restored to its rightful place in our nation.

We thank you for each family represented in this church.
Knit together the hearts of parents and their children,
Give parents wisdom to teach their children in Your ways,
Bless them for their self-less acts of love.
Be the guide and guardian of our children in all that they do,
Call them to yourself and go before them to prepare the way for them.

We thank you for members of this church, past and present,
Who spread your love in other parts of the world.
May they walk daily in the power of Your Holy Spirit.
May they be salt and light to those whom they meet.
Protect them from harm and evil.
May Your faithfulness be their shield,
May Your love continue to inspire their hearts.
And bless those who support them financially or with untold hours of prayer.

We pray for all people in our city, in our nation, in our world.
For those struggling for peace and justice,
May You be their Wonderful Counsellor.
For the victims of violence,
May You be their Mighty God.
For children displaced, wounded or orphaned,
May you be their Everlasting Father.
For churches in conflict situations,
May you be their Prince of Peace.

Lord, reveal to us the ways that You want us to act to reach this hurting world.
Come Holy Spirit, and fill our hearts
so that we may work under your guidance and power,
so that we may overflow with joy and love,
so that we may serve others with the strength that you supply.

Lord, it is not the magnitude of our actions that count but the love we put into them.

In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.

2009 1 Feb.
Let us pray!

You are worthy, our Lord and God
To receive glory and honour and power
For you created all things
And by your will they existed and were created

Father God, we come before you today to offer up our prayers of thanksgiving and supplication.

Thank you that we know you will hear us, help us and guide us.

As we reflect on the past week, we acknowledge that we have sometimes disappointed you. We are sorry for the times when we did not do what we ought to have done and we are sorry for the times when we did things which we ought not to have done. We ask your forgiveness…. (pause) and we thank you that you love us so much that you sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin.

Thank you, Lord – that the son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

We thank you for all the blessings you rain down on us
We thank you for our families
We thank you for our church family
We thank you for our relationship with you
We thank you for our homes
We thank you for our food
We thank you for our jobs
We thank you for our health
We thank you that we can worship in freedom
We thank you for our beautiful world which you created – for our pleasure

We pray for the world – we pray for wisdom for all the world’s leaders that they may work together to find long-lasting solutions to world poverty, the global economic crisis, the areas of conflict and our environment. We pray that they will be able to put aside national considerations and consider solutions for the benefit of all.

We pray for our church – we pray for Dave and his family, Andrew, the elders and deacons, all who work for the various ministries and the whole congregation. We pray for those who are sick, those unable to attend this morning, those with joy in their hearts and those who came with problems and worries.

We pray for the redevelopment project – we pray that, if it is your will, progress will be made without delays and problems. We pray for more pledges and increased pledges. We pray for optimism and enthusiasm for the whole fellowship. We pray for a spirit of unity to work together on fund-raising projects and that our faith will sustain us.

We pray for ourselves – we pray for your Holy Spirit to be with us and guide us. We pray that we try to live well; that we may follow the example of Jesus with faith, joy and obedience.

Be with us all as we live our daily lives – in our homes, at work, in church and at leisure. Help us to be beacons of your Light in this world.
We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your son, our Lord.

Amen
