Why would someone who had everything, give it up?

We don’t often hear about the wealthy giving away large portions of their wealth. It does happen, but rarely, and even more rarely without selfish motive.

But what we find in Jesus, is our God laying down, for a time, His obvious power and glory to become truly human in order to embrace a humanity who hates Him, and would kill Him.

Is our God just foolish, or did something world changing happen upon that cross?

How does God reveal Himself to humankind?

Psalm 19 gives us the answer.

He shows Himself firstly by His creation. Secondly by His written word. Thirdly, by His personal revelation to individuals.

What can God do with a man as arrogant and crude as Samson?

You may be mistaken in thinking you have to be perfect to be used by God, or at the very least, willing!

But the story of Samson challenges these ideas, pushing the idea of God's free gift of grace to the very limit. God chose Samson, Samson did everything he possibly could have to reject that calling, and yet even in his disobedience, God sticks with him to the end.

As we continue reading the Book of Judges, we find another horrendous account, this time of a Judge making an unprompted vow to the LORD, trading victory for something of value to him, which turns out to be his daughter.

For us, we should be rightly horrified at this account, but it takes great humility to pause and ask, 'What am I trading with God for?' Is that even how a relationship with Him works?

Jesus shows us that He paid the ultimate price so superstitious bargains with God can, and should, be a thing of the past.

Come and meet with us, as we meet with Jesus, the God who paid it all and offers all we could ever need.
